Playing with the past

Discover the games and toys of days gone by! Games are of all times, but games and toys have evolved a lot. Yet you will probably still recognise many of them. There are some toys to play with as well

Look and play for yourself

Until the end of the nineteenth century, most children had simple toys that were often self-made. There was a clear division between boys’ and girls’ toys. If the parents were rich, the toys were more expensive. The children of Texel spent most of their free time outside, where they played with the animals on the farm, in the dunes or on the street. In the exhibition you also find (new) self-made toys that you can play with. A giant Game of the Goose board, block puzzle, and puppet theatre. Have a blast!
